- Kite Runner- Technically this is a book I read for Ap literature, but it truly is an amazing book. It covers lots of heavy topics such as sexual assault and suicide and it explores themes of identity and redemption. The story is written by Khaled Hosseini and is 372 pages. The novel is told from the perspective of a young boy named Amir who immigrates to America and tells the story of his childhood in Kabul. Fair warning: it is on the sad side.
- Half a Soul- I got this book for Christmas and it was so good I finished it in one day. Half a soul by Olivia Atwater is a fantasy book set in regency England. The main character is Thedora, also known as Dora, and she is plaque with a very curious curse. After a childhood accident where a faerie steals half of her soul she is unable to express her emotions, normally showing a lack of fear, shame, or intense happiness. She meets a royal magician who makes a deal to find a cure for her condition. This book is super cute and has both mystery and romance.
- Heartless- This book is written by Marissa Meyer who also has lot of other good books such as the lunar chronicles and Renegades’ series. The story is a villain origin story for the queen of hearts, and it’s set in Wonderland long before Alice arrives. The main character Catherine is favored by the unmarried King but all she really dreams of is opening her own bakery and making all the pastries she can, but her family has other more respectable plans for her. At a royal ball she meets a mysterious Jester and starts a secret courtship much to the dismay of her mother and the king.
- Everlost- Everlost by Neal Shusterman is the first book in the Skinjacker trilogy. He also has lots of other really good This book is honestly a fever dream but super nostalgic. The book tells the story of two young kids Allie and Nick who get in a deadly car accident and whose souls are caught in a sort of limbo between life and death. The book describes Nick and Allies’ attempts to navigate the strange new world of Everlost where they are slowly losing their memories and if they stay in one place too long, they start to sink into the Earth.
