Halloween Decorations or Winter?

Halloween+Decorations+or+Winter%3F
Jamie Beja

For years, winter decorations have held the most esteem in the decorating world. I can remember frosty winter nights where my friends and I would spend hours blasting music in the car as we drove through neighborhoods drinking hot coco and judging yard decorations. In more recent years, however, the fall spirit seems to have lifted as Halloween decorations have become more and more prominent. Sure, everyone has seen the decorations sold at stores like Spirt Halloween but recently, once the leaves start to drop you can’t drive anywhere without seeing at least one house that’s been all out dressed up for the holiday. So, with the increase in popularity of Halloween décor is it possible for it to take over from winter decorations in popularity and extravagancy?

The spooky spirit has brought new light to decorations. Halloween décor offers many versatile options to the decorating world. On one side it can sport a cozy fall vibe like, cute pink blankets with ghosts on them or pumpkins that make your house fit to the season without scaring off visitors. If you do wish to scare off visitors though, Halloween décor has that covered too, it offers large looming skeleton figures, spooky graveyards with fog machines to set the vibe or even interact-able decorations like characters that jump out and scare you. Who doesn’t love a good scare in the spirit of Halloween right?

Where Halloween seems to excel in versatility, winter decorations compete with nostalgia. Although winter décor normally fits a softer, cuter vibe, with adorable reindeer or sparkling snowflakes, even if that’s not something you enjoy you can still partake in the enjoyment of memory. I remember growing up always helping my parents set up decorations the minute snow began to fall, so, seeing decorations now always holds a special place in my heart with that family bonding experience. Don’t worry though, if decorating isn’t your thing, you could always enjoy the memories of seeing other people’s decorations, pointing excitedly at a house with crazy lights as a kid as you drive home from school on the first day of winter break. Or going on a walk with friends through your neighborhood looking excitedly at the new décor making comparisons between them and choosing favorites. The memories associated with the joyous winter adornments will always fill the beginning of the season with excitement the minute you see that first decorated tree or posed reindeer.

As you can see both types of decoration have their strong suits. To me Halloween decorations are so versatile and interesting, but the nostalgia of winter décor can’t be beaten. However, that’s just my opinion the true winner of the décor competition is based on personal preference I could love winter while you could love Halloween its truly up to what you value most in a decoration piece or what you find most interesting to see while driving through town.
