With the more use of technology, the more reliant we become. Instead of reading books for fun, now kids mindlessly scroll on their phone. School is supposed to teach more than we know and expand our mind.
Now, things like standardized testing and finals are on computer, taking away our ability to have a physical copy of the exams. Having tests online takes away some jobs from people. The exams being online also comes with lots of technology issues especially if you are not constantly updating your computer. Even then, constantly updating your computers is not going to fix all the different issues we currently have and the new ones that are to come. With these computers issues, a hand full of kids had to stay at school for a longer time jus to finish their test on that same day. When testing, people might risk the problem if writing down an equation wrong in the math section leading them to get the problem wrong at the end. Many people, including students, especially, are constantly using technology. Whether they are on their phone or using a computer, or some other device, it lessons their ability to think for themselves.
Unlike using phones and other devices, books help improve cognitive memory, helps the brain focus, and increases your vocabulary. Sadly, at Lincoln-Way East, and possibly other schools, our, once known library, has turned into a media center. This change has gotten rid of more than half of our books and replaced that with more seating spaces. I feel this was unnecessary in the fact that there were plenty of seating spaces before. Schools are there to help increase our knowledge, but while doing so, they are lessening our physical resources, that seem simple, such as books. Although reading is not as popular as before, there are still many that enjoy reading but unfortunately those resources are becoming less available in some places such as our schools. Technology increases anxiety, depression, and stress. How much damage on our cognitive abilities and mental health do we have to take before we realize something is wrong?
