That time of year strikes again when the air gets colder, crisper, and slightly jollier! This December, the 2025 addition of Madrigals will perform again! With this theme being “Of Silver and Song”, a nod to both the anniversary of the school and the accomplishments of past Madrigal performances. The singing groups of Troubadours, Bel Canto, and the Madrigal Singers have been working hard ever since the few weeks of school to put on a merry performance that can be enjoyed by all! Madrigals is that time of year where families and friends can come together, enjoy gorgeous acapella arrangements of your favorite Christmas songs, and eat a delicious dinner and dessert.

Students learn together in groups to learn these merry, choral arrangements, which are often very hard to work on and learn! Section leader, Addison Thompson from the Bel Canto singing group, has mentioned she wanted to become a section leader due to wanting to help others get better at learning music and help when needed, a very valuable trait in the theater department and Madrigals. She says that one of her favorite songs to work on was Whisper, Whisper due to it being the entrance song for Bel Canto. It has fun and vibrant energy that is very upbeat and fun to walk to, the perfect song to introduce the women’s singing group. However, the song Thus Sings My Dearest Jewel has been challenging to work on because of difficult rhymes, the song switching from 4/4 to 3/4 and suddenly back to 4/4! Despite the challenges the song may place, it is very gorgeous to listen to! Addison Thompson also states one of the best parts of madrigals is the traditions it has with the students, allowing a bond to form among all students that strengthens over time. It is a place where you can come together with friends, and even make new ones, to make wonderful music for everyone to enjoy. She says it is her favorite time of the year due to these reasons, but also the festive vibes it brings to December and the holidays!
