The Lincoln-Way East International Club a club to celebrate an understanding of the distinct cultures in our community. Each month there is one meeting and/or cultural activity. Some activities include going to various restaurants, plays, musicals, museums, having cultural parties, film festivals, and attending cultural festivals within Illinois.
The club turned the school library into a candy shop during their latest cultural activity last week. Students brought in candies from around the world to taste and enjoy. Club members and non-club members were able to go and share their candy
The event encouraged students to display sweets that stood for different countries and cultures. Tables quickly filled the library with a variety of candies as students from distinct cultural backgrounds came. From Japanese Pocky sticks and Mexican Pulparindo to German Haribo gummies. Each candy offered a different taste and showed a part of their respective country’s culture
Students continued to spend the afternoon eating and trying many different sweets. Club members said it was one of the most enjoyable meetings till now.
The International Club continues to express cultural awareness and the differences from cultures from all around the world.
