Picture a crisp fall day. The litany of beautiful leaves litter the ground, and you’re wearing the swag for your team of choice. You tug your jacket a little tighter around yourself as you sit on the silver benches of the stadium. This tradition is common for many Americans around this time of year, and when asked, many students at Lincoln-Way East argued that October is the best month for sports.
A brief look at the official Lincoln-Way page reveals the multitude of sports that are played in the fall. Finding a sport you enjoy watching, either in person or on TV, is simpler than ever during this time of year. Among them are baseball, soccer, basketball, hockey, and of course, football. East’s football season has been incredible, what with 10-0 overall records. It isn’t uncommon to see a vociferous crowd of fans in Lincoln-Way East’s football stadium on a Friday night in September, October, and November. Many people claim that fall is the best season, and a large factor in this is the multitude of sports that are played during this time of year.
Additionally, tryouts for both winter and spring sports begin in the fall. The school announcements have been discussing the tryouts for the girls’ badminton team for the past week or so, among other athletic teams. While in the fall season, fans and players are already looking to future months to see what they can enjoy.
When interviewed, junior Ryan Clark told me that though October was the best month to watch sports, January is the superior month for players. Football is in the playoffs on the national level, and basketball and hockey are in full swing. While not everyone enjoys athletics, at Lincoln-Way East, there is something for everyone to enjoy all-year round.
