It’s spooky season! Finally, the crunchy leaves falling from the changing leaves, the pumpkins beginning to pup up all around, the houses covered in ghosts and skeletons and all that good stuff. It’s arguably the best time of the year. While all this is fun and exciting, there’s also a seriousness to the month of October. It’s also breast cancer awareness month, and our community does so many amazing things to contribute to spreading awareness or even raising money to help find a cure. Your very own Lincoln-Way East contributes with a “Volley for a Cure” game. For this game everyone wears pink, and there are even raffles to which the money raised is donated. On the same day, Culvers has a fundraiser to which they donate a portion of their profits towards breast cancer. These are two amazing things that your own community does during the month of October. Everyone is drinking their pumpkin lates but not without wearing pink. Even the fire department is in on this. If you go to your local fire station, you’ll most likely see all of them wearing a pink shirt to help spread awareness. You are even going to see your sports teams changing to pink. Whether its as simple as a pink ribbon on their helmet or jersey or as extravagant as a pink out uniform with pink eye black and shoelaces and ribbons and all out, you can’t miss these amazing efforts to help support awareness and support towards breast cancer. There are also many extortionary efforts in helping raise money for breast cancer in your very own community such as the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. This is the largest form of fundraising and is, “nation’s largest and most impactful breast cancer movement.” You can either participate in the walk yourself or simply donate towards the cause. There are many different locations for the walk with many different dates giving you many opportunities to participate. All participants wear pink and even the supporters are draped with this meaningful color. There are many different ways that our community helps to spread awareness and donate towards breast cancer. Get involved and contribute to helping spread awareness or even donating towards helping support the strategies of breast cancer. There are many different ways in which you can contribute. Let’s hear about all the ways your very own students contribute. Freshman Izzy Honchar says, “I wear pink, and attempt to spread awareness because of the effects that breast cancer has on people all over the world.” Freshman Jake Luedtke does something similar, “I wear pink socks during my football games to raise awareness for breast cancer.” These are both amazing ways to show your support. I also know many softball teams who wear pink belts, sock, eye black, and some jerseys even have the pink ribbon on the sides of the jerseys to spread their awareness and show their support. There are many ways to spread awareness and help support. There are a lot of people who already wear pink on a daily. This month, wear pink for a purpose!
