Ok, admit it. We’ve all done it. We’ve all gone to a store knowing what we want to get and come put with maybe a little more than intended, or maybe not more than expected, but with items that were not intended. Target is a big contributor to this. Many go in with an intent to buy one item and come out spending over $100. Ask your friends, ask your family, I bet at least one of them have done this. The last time my friend and I went we were looking for a blanket and came out with two books, snacks, gum, and Starbucks. Now, this may sound very avoidable, but it is really quite difficult. I mean who can say no to a $5 cute fuzzy Halloween blanket right? Anyway, back on track. There are four main reasons to why people might buy that extra item, or basket depending on the day. Social influences, fear of missing out or better known as F.O.M.O., the feeling of instant gratification, and the feeling of guilt and gratification. These four things are the main reason in which we buy things that aren’t necessary to human life. It doesn’t matter if you fit in or not, as long as your yourself. Saving money to get into college or buy that dream house or car that you’ve always wanted is a much better feeling than spending that extra $100 on random things you saw on the shelf. So, next time your out, say no to that cute desk decoration that going to collect dust and save that extra $20.
