NBA

The first week of the NBA has been incredible so far, especially for us Bulls fans here in Chicago. The Bulls finished this week with one of the top records in the league at 5-1. We finished the week by knocking off the last undefeated team in the league, the Utah Jazz. There are 5 other teams with a record of 5-1. Those teams are the Utah Jazz, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, Miami Heat, and the Washington Wizards. As of right now, the Bulls and the Heat can credit their records to their defenses. They both have a top 5 defense in the league after the first week. I asked Kellen Tanner what he thinks of the Bulls’ elite defensive play and he said, “I think the Bulls are going to continue to be one of the best defensive teams in the league throughout the remainder of the season.” Other teams with records over .500 are the Charlotte Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, and the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern conference. In the Western conference the Denver Nuggets, Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Los Angeles Lakers are the teams with records over .500. These are all teams that NBA fans expected to be good at the beginning of the season. Although, the Lakers are disappointing fans as of right now as many fans had them as favorites to win the NBA Championship. Finally, there have been some teams, along with the Lakers, who have disappointed their fans to start the season. The Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Boston Celtics are most surprising among the disappointing teams. The Suns and the Bucks both made the NBA Finals last year and now are both under .500 with their records. I don’t see any reason to overreact with these teams’ performance as they will most likely still make the playoffs. In the end, the start to this season has been a little crazier than most NBA fans could have predicted.
