With Halloween fast approaching, many are wondering how COVID-19 will affect this holiday. With things like communal candy bowls, large groups walking door to door, and Halloween parties seems to be taking a large hit due to COVID, but as my mother says, “Where there’s a will there’s a way!” In places like the suburbs of West Chicago, all events on property that are owned by the city have been cancelled and that may include trick or treating. Guidelines are still in the process of being created, but even if trick or treating is allowed health officials are expecting to see very far and few groups walking the streets. Possible ways to still celebrate Halloween include small gatherings between groups that are known to not have been exposed to COVID recently (more than 50 people is against state guidelines), online costume contests, or even simply a horror movie marathon with the family. Halloween will be much different this year but that does not mean it can’t still be fun!
