When track season was cut short due to COVID-19, the D-Squad (aka distance runners) started to worry if their running lifestyle would ever get back to normal. It did…sort of. The new normal brings about many restrictions, however the Lincoln-Way East Cross-Country teams love competing so much that they will take whatever they can get. Some of these restrictions include wearing a mask until the gun fires, timing our own splits, and not seeing our parents and other fans along the course. Not having fans cheering us on is the biggest challenge, because let’s be real…who doesn’t love fans? Another challenge is not having a state competition to work towards. While IHSA did announce a sectional series would happen, state has not been determined yet. Regardless of what the pandemic has taken away from us, the friendships and camaraderie remain intact.
