Holiday Cookies

When someone says holidays, many things come to mind. Family gatherings, decorations, food….. but most importantly, cookies! Here are some holiday inspired cookies to make your holiday season even better.
First, and my personal favorite, sugar cookies.
You’ll need:
• 2 ¾ cup all purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• ½ teaspoon baking powder
• 1 cup butter, softened
• 1 ½ cups white sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
First preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Then in a large bowl, cream together butter and suger until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend all dry ingredients. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and placed onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8-10 minutes or until golden. Let stand on a cookie sheet for 2 minutes before removing to cool on wire racks. If you really want to spice them up, use fun shaped cookie cutters such as snowmen or snowflakes or even trees. It would also be fun to decorate them with frosting! Whatever you prefer.

This next one is perfect for days when its too cold to go out and do anything.
Chocolate chip cookies in a mug
You’ll need:
• 2 tablespoons of butter
• 2 tablespoons milk
• ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
• 3-4 tablespoons of brown sugar (add to your preferance)
• 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
• 1 pinch of salt
Place the butter and milk into a coffee cup or mug. Then microwave for 30 seconds to melt the butter or warm the milk. Stir in brown sugar and vanilla extract then mix in flour, chocolate chips and a pinch of salt. Disclaimer: the chocolate chips might melt a bit but it still tastes great. Microwave for about 1 minute on high. Then allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving. Easy as that!

The next cookie has holiday season written all over it.
Peppermint cookies
You’ll need:
• ¾ cup sugar
• ½ cup butter, softened
• 1 large egg
• ½ teaspoon vanilla
• 1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract
• 1 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
• ½ teaspoon baking soda
• ½ teaspoon salt
• ½ cup crushed mini candy canes or peppermint candies
• ¼ cup sugar
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper and set aside. Combine ¾ cup sugar, butter, egg, vanilla and peppermint flavoring into a bowl; beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt; beat at. low speed until well mixed. Stir 1/4 cup of crushed candy into the dough. Stir remaining 1/4 cup of crushed candy into ¼ cup sugar. Shape dough into 3-4-inch balls; roll in sugar mixture. Place about 2 inches apart onto prepared cookie sheets. Bake 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly brown. Do not over bake. Cool for 1 minute on cookie sheet then remove to a cooling rack. Cool completely and enjoy!
